We engineer 3D InSight™ Islet Microtissues to address the major issues associated with isolated native islets, such as heterogeneity, variable purity and limited ex vivo life span. Through scaffold-free and high-throughput reaggregation of dispersed fresh or cryopreserved primary islet cells, we generate uniform and standardized pseudoislets that mimic the complex architecture and function of human pancreatic islets. The stable functionality and viability (>28-days) of islet microtissues make them ideal for longitudinal studies of pancreatic endocrine cell function, identity, survival, proliferation and transdifferentiation under type 1 or type 2 diabetes-relevant stress conditions.
