Careers - Open position:

Laboratory Technician (80-100%)

Starting date: as soon as possible (start date flexible) | Place of work: Schlieren, Switzerland

As part of a dedicated team of Research Associates and Scientists, you will be responsible for the production and characterization of 3D InSight™ microtissues and cell culture media. Your work will include performing cell-based assays, biochemical analyses, and histological evaluations, as well as supporting quality control (QC) processes. Additionally, you will assist in the transfer of new technologies from R&D to production. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the commercialization of cutting-edge solutions for drug discovery and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Routine production of 3D InSight™ microtissues and cell culture media for commercial sales and internal use, following established SOPs
  • Characterization of microtissues using optical, biochemical, and histological methods
  • Thorough documentation of production processes in manufacturing checklists
  • Execution of cell-based assays
  • Support for development and validation projects
  • General laboratory maintenance, including cleaning, equipment monitoring, reagent preparation, inventory management, and master cell bank maintenance
  • Assisting the Quality team with QC releases

Profile

  • Biology lab technician (or equivalent degree) with experience in cell culture techniques
  • Ability to work under aseptic conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs
  • Experience in performing biochemical assays and handling technical equipment with precision
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards (a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Flexible and reliable team player, capable of working independently
  • B2-level German proficiency (minimum required) and good command of English

Vice President Operations (100%)

Starting date: as soon as possible | Place of work: Schlieren, Switzerland

The VP Operations will oversee critical operational functions, including lab management, production of biological microtissues (BPU), production of Akura™ plates (CPU), and export/logistics. This individual will be a key driver in improving internal processes, enhancing profitability, and ensuring the scalability and efficiency of our operations.

The role requires a strategic and hands-on leader with expertise in operational optimization, financial rigor, and process streamlining, ensuring seamless execution from Purchase Order (PO) to cash-in.

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams, including lab management, biological and Akura plate production, and logistics.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental leaders (R&D, Business Development, Finance) to align operations with overall business strategy.

Process Optimization and Streamlining

  • Evaluate and optimize the end-to-end PO-to-cash workflow to improve efficiency, reduce lead times, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Implement standardized tools, KPIs, and processes to measure and optimize operational performance.
  • Identify bottlenecks and develop actionable solutions to streamline production and supply chain processes.

Product and Solution Portfolio Optimization

  • Work closely with the VPs and/or Product Manager to refine and optimize InSphero’s product and service offerings.
  • Evaluate production costs, resource allocation, and scalability of current offerings to ensure maximum profitability and value for customers.
  • Contribute to new product introductions by supporting efficient process design and implementation.

Profitability and Cost Optimization

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust project calculation tools to ensure accurate cost estimations and pricing strategies.
  • Review project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals and resource capabilities.
  • Conduct post-execution analyses to assess project profitability and recommend measures for future cost improvements.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives across production and logistics.

Team and Leadership Development

  • Inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing teams within operations.
  • Drive collaboration and communication across departments to achieve shared objectives.
  • Attract and retain top talent to continuously strengthen InSphero’s operational capabilities.

Profile: 

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in operations leadership roles, preferably in the life sciences, biotech, or manufacturing sectors.

Laboratory Manager (60-100%)

Starting date: as soon as possible | Place of work: Schlieren, Switzerland | Reporting to: Director Operations

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and lead regular meetings to communicate and coordinate topics related to lab infrastructure and lab operations (production and services).
  • Maintain proper documentation of all QA-relevant lab information, including standard and technical operating procedures/work instructions and following the principle of document control (Dokumentenlenkung).
  • Ensure compliance with the ISO 9001 standard for lab infrastructure and processes and support the quality management (QM) team during quality audits (ISO, customer audits etc.).
  • Train and onboard new lab personnel in operational procedures for InSphero lab facilities, including work safety, biosafety, and good cell culture practices.
  • Ensure regular maintenance, IQ/OQ installation, and repair of lab equipment. Maintain a comprehensive device database.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to hygiene standards.
  • Oversee continuous monitoring of all critical laboratory devices and organize emergency on-call service.
  • Organize, coordinate and oversee regular cleaning and decontamination of all InSphero laboratories.
  • Provide training and retraining for lab personnel on critical processes to ensure compliance with InSphero’s internal and applicable external regulations.
  • Coordinate lab-related infrastructure topics with facility management.
  • Drive and support process optimizations related to lab activities.
  • Manage lab equipment maintenance and servicing.

Profile: 

  • Education as a laboratory technician or a BSc/MSc in Biology, Chemistry or other Life Sciences.
  • Experience of at least two years in aseptic manufacturing and/or biological testing procedures in a regulated environment, such as BSL-2 laboratory, regulated bioproduction and/or CRO environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and assertiveness to guide InSphero’s lab personnel in maintaining proper cell management practices and a tidy work environment.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, biosafety and chemical safety regulations.

Product Manager 3D Biology (100%)

The Product Manager 3D Biology will serve as the central point of contact for all product management activities for InSphero’s assay-ready microtissues and services portfolio. This role will be responsible for establishing and driving our product management strategy, overseeing the end-to-end product management processes, and ensuring alignment with technical product management experts across various strategic business fields. Key interfaces include the Strategic business units, Marketing, Business Development, Inside Sales, and Quality Assurance teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute product management strategies for assay-ready microtissues and 3D in vitro service solutions.
  • Oversee the product lifecycle from concept to post-launch, including market research, product definition, development monitoring, launch planning, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with technical experts across business fields to integrate scientific, technical, and market insights.
  • Create and manage product materials, including customer segmentation, market positioning, sales resources, and manuals, with input from technical teams and business development.
  • Support marketing efforts by coordinating product-specific strategies and customer-facing content.
  • Provide training and technical support to business development.
  • Analyze customer feedback, market trends, and competitive insights to drive product improvements.

Profile: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or certification in Product Management is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management within the life sciences tools industry, preferably with a focus on cell-based assay solutions.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and managing products from concept to commercialization.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific and technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong analytical skills and a keen understanding of market needs and competitive dynamics.
  • Familiarity with 3D cell-based assays, organ-on-chip systems, or microtissue applications is an advantage.

Prozessingenieur/In für 3D Zellkultur Plattformen (100%)

Die Stellenausschreibung richtet sich an verantwortungsbewusste Ingenieure, die den Aufbau einer Produktionseinheit mitgestalten wollen 
und deren Leitung dann übernehmen. Diese Produktionseinheit soll in einem ersten Schritt die Fertigung und Qualitätskontrolle unserer Mikrotiterplatten
sicherstellen. Das betrifft alle Schritte von der Beschaffung der Rohmaterialien, die Veredlung, bis hin zur Auswertung der Qualitätstest. Im Anschluss daran
werden weitere Verbrauchsmittel in den Aufgabenbereich integriert.

Aufgaben:

  • Überwachung und Optimierung der Produktionsprozesse für Mikrotiterplatten zur Herstellung von 3D-Zellkulturmodellen.

Anforderungen: 

  • Abgeschlossenes Studium (FH) im Bereich Ingenieurwesen.
  • Erfahrung in der Produktion von Mikrotiterplatten oder in einem ähnlichen Bereich, idealerweise in der Biotechnologie oder Pharmaindustrie.
  • Kenntnisse in Prozessoptimierung und Qualitätsmanagement (ISO:9001), speziell im Kontext von 3D-Zellkulturmodellen.
  • Analytisches Denkvermögen und Problemlösungsfähigkeiten.
  • Zuverlässiger Teamplayer, der in der Lage ist, selbstständig und eigenmotiviert zu arbeiten
