Fail fast, fail smart! Assess the Risk of Liver Injury Due to Toxic Compound Exposure with 3D InSight™ Human Liver Microtissues

3D InSight™ Human Liver Microtissues are pharma-validated, preclinical co-culture human liver models for toxicology testing that have been shown to achieve 2X higher sensitivity for DILI prediction compared to traditional 2D PHH.

These advanced 3D liver models, which combine multi-donor diversity with structural and functional robustness, are ideal for drug safety and efficacy testing as well as the study of healthy and diseased liver function.

Upon request, microtissues from individual donor hepatocyte lots are also available.

  • Closely reflect the average response of the human population with a model incorporating hepatocytes from 5 male and 5 female donors
  • Achieve the highest biological relevance in an in vitro co-culture model of primary human hepatocyte, Kupffer cell, and liver endothelial cell (LEC)
  • Test long-term effects of drug exposure in a more reliable way to reflect the human response and potential for drug-induced liver injury
  • Investigate mechanisms of liver injury and drug-induced liver pathologies, such as necrosis, apoptosis, cholestasis, steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis.
  • Save time and in-house resources with fully validated and quality-controlled 3D liver models shipped direct to your lab, ready to assay within hours of receipt – or send us your compounds, and our expert liver toxicology team will screen and assess drug risk using our proven 3D liver models for you!

Human liver spheroid model for tox testing

Characterization Data

Slide Long-term maintenance of liver-specific morphology via immuno-histochemistry. Multi-donor Human Liver Microtissues maintain compact structure (H&E), hepatocyte polarization by expression of transporters (BSEP), and presence of CD68 positive Kupffer cells (CD68) for at least 28 days in culture. Slide Organotypic Cytoarchitecture. An intact bile canaliculi network expressing bile salt export pump (BSEP) protein (brown) in native liver (left) and recapitulated in 3D InSight Human Liver Microtissues at day 10 (right). Slide Cytochrome P450 induction activity in Multi-donor Human Liver Microtissues. Multi-donor microtissues are able to maintain hepatocyte functionality in order to induce activity of CYP1A2, CYP2C9 and CYP2B6 when treated with Omeprazol, Rifampicin and Phenobarbital. All three conditions showed increased metabolite production when pre-treated with inducers.
